What brings more than a hundred girls together to learn about health, education, and life skills in a vibrantly empowering environment? REDES Regional Conferences!
This year’s REDES Regional Conferences were a huge success. Held in the southern, central, and northern regions of Mozambique, each conference focused on topics like HIV/AIDS prevention, income generation, higher education, and myriad other issues that are integral to improving the lives of young Mozambican women.
More than 120 girls and 45 Mozambican facilitators participated in the conferences, sharing ideas and leading sessions about how to empower the young women of Mozambique. Organizations like ICAP and Forum Mulher partnered with REDES to bring unique insight into sessions on health and women’s rights. The Honorable Leslie V. Rowe, Ambassador of the United States, spoke to the girls about their role in the future of Mozambique, and local media – TVM Inhambane – covered both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Southern Regional Conference.
Our thanks go out to the inspiring young women who are REDES, the Mozambican facilitators who serve as role models for the next generation, and to our friends at Barra Lodge, Milevane Padre Center, and ADPP for providing the venues and logistical support that made these conferences possible!
